“Neptune is not a planet. It’s a drug… or a spell…”
- Mystic Medusa
I am not a professional astrologer, but I have been studying astrology since the ‘90s.
Lately, when I see certain types of astrological weather approaching the collective, it’s making me want to warn us a little bit, so we don’t get caught in what Clarissa Pinkola Estes calls “leg traps”.
(This post is a sister post to how to avoid the destructive impulse and who will be our guides?; both of which are also centered on avoiding leg traps.)
On March 17 the Neptune and the Sun will be meeting up in a conjunction. This meetup is giving this weekend a fantasy element – which could be really beautiful and spiritual and/or that could result in confusion or “inspire” us to take action based on some kind of illusion.
In their conjunction, the sun is going to shine out Neptune rays – which, again, could be highly magical – but could also trip up the mundane aspects of everyday life. (For example, LITERALLY as I was trying to send out this post, my connection to Substack went out several times and I wondered if what I wrote was lost for good or if I’d be able to send it out at all. Neptune doesn’t care that I always send out a post on Fridays and that today I wanted to send a special, timely one to all subscribers, paid or not.)
So, yes, together, in this space, we understand the power of astrological weather AND we understand there are stances we can take to make the most of whatever weather we have.
In other words, if it gets really misty, there are some protocols that can guide us through that mist.
First let me build my case about the neptunian mist, and then I’ll offer two solid ways to work with it; rather than letting ourselves be worked by it.
First, let’s talk about Neptune who rules over many fluid and mystical arenas - from our oceans to the movies. Here is Neptune in a nutshell from Mystic Medusa:
“Neptune being the planet of glamor, addiction, myth, magic, hell to heaven and back again in half a day, delisuion/illusion, surrealism, art, lucid dreaming, oil, vaporware, the futures market soulmates and love zombies.”
- Mystic Medusa
I am also going to make the case that although Uranus is new tech, inventions and the internet, I would argue that the illusory realms of social media belong to Neptune.
Social media, although definitely a new technology, with its ability to glamorize everything and anything, feels to me like overtly Neptunian turf. We all know the feeling of getting “lost” in social media, “losing time” in that space and that often, information that emerges from social media is as full of illusions as anything ever could be.
Which is a BIG PART of why I wanted to give a little alert today - that we may understand social media in the context of Neptune’s domain and be extra discerning to combat the misty illusions it may serve up to our individual and collective consciousnesses.
So, if it is going to be a misty weekend, what can we do?
One idea is to become the mist ourselves. We can be everywhere, infiltrating any scene, while being impossible to pin down. We can be uncatchable, like a field of microscopic droplets of water floating in air; we can expand and expand and expand. On the most practical level, being mist means we float everywhere, learn everything, see all we can see WITHOUT taking action. We can use our mistiness to rise into high and fine spaces AND THEN WAIT till we don’t feel misty anymore before we act on any big decisions.
The other idea is to intentionally key into guides and/or an inner home base that aren’t so affected by Neptunian illusions. Guides here might include the more-than-human realms or beings from very high-up places. And a home base might be an inner place you create that is as mist-proof as you want it to be.
Many, many of our meditations can help with idea #2.
If you asked me to pick one meditation for this weekend, I’d pick Familiar because it has a strong magic element to it (that I think would please even Neptune) AND it also gives us true access to wisdom that is both mist-friendly and, paradoxically, more-or-less mist-proof.
There is nothing wrong with Neptunian mist in and of itself. Let’s access the high magic of it without making any hard-and-fast real-life decisions until the sunlight dissipates the mist.
Until next time,
Jess
p.s. Big thanks to the 53 paid subscribers, they are making it possible for me to send this Friday post to everyone today. If you are feeling like supporting this space (and me!) because you find value here, please consider either the $5/month or $50/year options. xo Jess
